October rain means wet shoes, soggy mats and foggy glass. Here's what fall moisture does to your car's interior, and how a mobile Interior Refresh or Deep Clean helps.
October in Metro Vancouver doesn't just happen outside your car. It comes in with you on every trip: wet shoes, dripping umbrellas, damp jackets thrown on the back seat, and a few leaves stuck to your soles. A couple of weeks into the rainy season, most cabins have soggy floor mats, grit ground into the carpet, and windows that fog up the moment you start the engine.
Here's what all that fall moisture does to your interior, what you can do about it between details, and how a mobile interior detail at your home or work gets the cabin back on track.
Where fall moisture ends up inside your car
Water that comes in on shoes and clothing doesn't just disappear. It settles in a few predictable spots:
- Floor mats and the carpet underneath them. Mats catch most of it, but water and fine grit work their way around the edges and into the carpet below, especially on the driver's side.
- Seat fabric and seat seams. Damp jackets and wet pants leave moisture in cloth seats, and grit collects in the seams.
- Door pockets, cup holders and the centre console. Wet umbrellas, gloves and coffee cups all leave residue behind.
- The inside of the glass. All that moisture has to go somewhere, and on cool mornings a lot of it ends up as fog and a smeary film on the windshield.
On its own, a little water isn't a disaster. The problem is the combination: water plus road grit plus a cabin that never fully dries out between rainy days.
Why it's worth dealing with now, not in spring
Grit wears carpet down. Wet sand and road grit stick to your shoes and get pressed into the carpet every time you get in. Over a full wet season, that grit acts like sandpaper on the fibres under your heel.
Damp cabins smell damp. A car that stays humid for weeks tends to pick up a stale, musty smell, especially if wet mats sit in it day after day.
Foggy glass is a visibility issue. Darker evenings and rainy commutes are exactly when you want clear glass. A dirty film on the inside of the windshield makes fog worse and glare from oncoming headlights harder to see through.
It's easier to keep clean than to rescue. Starting the wet months with a properly cleaned cabin means each week's mess sits on top of a clean surface, instead of building on top of September's dust and summer's sand.
Simple habits that help between details
You don't need to do much to slow the damage down:
- Knock off shoes before you get in. A quick tap on the door sill or the curb leaves a surprising amount of grit outside.
- Pull wet mats out when you get home. If you have a garage or covered spot, take the driver's mat out and let it dry overnight instead of leaving it soaking in the footwell.
- Keep wet gear contained. A small bin or bag for umbrellas and wet jackets keeps water off the seats and carpet.
- Run the defrost properly. Using your car's defrost and air conditioning together, rather than recirculating cabin air, helps pull moisture out of the air on damp mornings.
- Wipe the inside of the windshield. A clean microfibre cloth used dry, kept just for glass, takes off the film that makes fogging worse.
These habits slow things down. They don't replace a proper clean once the grit and moisture have already worked in.
What a mobile interior detail actually covers
We come to you at home or at your workplace, and our units are self-contained with onboard water and power, so you don't need to supply a hose or an outlet. There are two interior packages on our mobile detailing page.
Interior Refresh
A good fit if your cabin is mostly dirty from a few weeks of wet weather and normal use. It covers:
- A thorough vacuum and the floor mats
- Dash, console and door panels
- Cup holders and storage areas
- Seats cleaned and wiped
- Cracks, crevices and interior glass
The Interior Refresh is listed at starting at $149, about an hour on site.
Interior Deep Clean
The better choice when grit has been ground into the mats and carpet, the seats have taken a beating, or the cabin hasn't had a proper clean in a while. It includes everything in the Interior Refresh, plus:
- Full steam cleaning
- Deeper seat and surface cleaning
- Deeper mat cleaning and spot treatment of minor stains
- Hard-to-reach and high-touch areas
The Interior Deep Clean is listed at starting at $249, about two and a half hours on site.

Prices on our site are starting prices and GST is extra. Your final price depends on your vehicle's size and condition, so check the mobile detailing page for current packages.
If you have leather seats or a child car seat that's seen a muddy season, there are interior add-ons for both on the same page. Pet owners have add-ons for pet hair too, which matters a lot once wet dogs start riding along.
Can you do an interior detail when it's raining?
Usually, yes. Light rain is generally fine for interior work, which is part of why fall is a good time to get the cabin done. We keep an eye on the forecast, and if heavy rain or extreme weather would affect the quality of the job, we'll contact you to reschedule.
It helps to have the car parked somewhere we can open the doors and work beside it, like a driveway, a carport, or a parking stall with a bit of room on either side. If you'd rather have it done at work, that's fine too, as long as your building or lot allows a mobile unit and there's space to park beside your vehicle.
Inside only, or inside and out?
If the outside of your car is also wearing a few weeks of road film, a combined package might make more sense than an interior on its own. Our Essential, Signature and Supreme packages cover both inside and out in a single visit. You can compare them on the mobile detailing page.
